Welcome to Journey to Christmas. This is the first week of our journey together. I am so excited to be sharing this journey with you. Today we will find ourselves beginning in John 1. I am praying for each of you to find your truest self as you embrace God's Best Gift.
How does the idea of mindfulness fit in with a Christian faith?
Mindfulness is not an attempt to empty the mind. The desire is to live with awareness, appreciating the present moments.
Oswald Chambers wrote, "the destiny of my spiritual life is such identification with Jesus Christ that I hear God, and I know that God always hears me (John 11:41). If I am united with Jesus Christ, I hear God, by the devotion of hearing all the time … What hinders me from hearing is that I am taken up with other things. It is not that I will not hear God but I am not devoted in the right place."
In the midst of busy lives, we can become more devoted to things, to serving, to convictions, and God may be speaking – but we may be too busy serving Him and pursuing what we think God desires for us to have – and never hear Him Speak.
Learning to be mindful, is cultivating space in our lives so we can hear from Him, any time.

Meditation (or listening prayer) is one of the disciplines of a spiritual life. Just like anything we attempt for the first time, it takes practice to teach the mind to let go of it's normal patterns of thought. If you are new to a meditation practice, please remember that inner transformation is God's work, we are just allowing space for transformation to take place.
Optional verses to begin your practice with: Ephesians 2:8-10
